Sharing Best Practices from Asia for Empowering UEC: Electoral Study Visit on Open Election Data (April 2019) [1]

2020-03-28

ANFREL Myanmar organized an Electoral Study Visit on Open Election Data for the Union Election Commission (UEC) of Myanmar during the 2019 Concurrent Elections in Indonesia from 16-20 April 2019.

Komisi Pemilihan Umum (KPU, General Elections Commission) of Indonesia facilitated the study visit and conducted a special training on open election data for the 7-man UEC delegation led by UEC Chairperson H.E. U Hla Thein. The training was organized to gain a better understanding of the principles of open election data and encourage collaboration between EMBs and civil society organizations in order to disseminate more election data to the public.

The study visit aimed to significantly strengthen voter education efforts in Myanmar, through direct campaigns or through wider dissemination of electoral information in the media. The visit also encouraged data to be more accessible by making them available in different local languages in Myanmar including languages of ethnic minorities which could benefit a bigger portion of the population and other stakeholders.
