
ANFREL organized two consultation meeting with members of civil society organizations in Myanmar to gather inputs on revising ANFREL’s Election Monitoring Handbook on 26 and 29 May 2019
The CSO consultations were held to discuss the revision of the election monitoring manual for Myanmar’s domestic election monitoring organizations. Fifteen CSOs from Northern Myanmar, including Kachin, Shan, Kayah, Chin states and Mandalay, Sagaing, Magwe regions, were gathered in the country’s capital Naypyidaw for the first consultation meeting while 15 CSO from Southern Myanmar, including Rakhine, Kyan, Mon states and Yangon, Bago, Ayeyarwaddy, Thanintharyi regions, were gathered in Yangon for the second consultation meeting.
The CSOs reviewed ANFREL’s Election Monitoring Handbook published before the 2015 General Elections. The invited CSO discussed the concerns and knowledge and skills gap they think need to be addressed to conduct election observation. They also discussed other issues such as organizational management.
ANFREL, in selecting the participants for the consultation meetings, considered the representation in all the states and regions of Myanmar and the efforts of these organizations in observing previous elections in 2015, 2017, and 2018.
